Autumn Arrives In the Red River Gorge

It’s finally here!!!! My absolute, favorite, smelly-good, color-filled, perfect weather time of the year is here! My beloved Jane Austen said it best in her book Persuasion,

“Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn- that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness- that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.”

Although the weather has been rather dry, the leaves are still brilliant, the sky is still crystal clear and blue, and the distinct smell of fall is carried on the near constant breeze which brings with it the anticipation of cooler nights and campfires.

The turkey and deer continue to endeavor to fatten themselves on the abundance of hickory nuts found around the estate and we see them daily, cloaked in the early morning mist and again every evening, emerging silently from the woodline.

Yes, the Red River Gorge is stunning year-round, but fall holds a special place in my heart. Fall is also a special time of the year for weddings. Those earth-loving souls, who, as Nathaniel Hawthorne said best, “…cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house”. What better time of the year to celebrate a glorious occasion in a glorious natural, organic setting?

I suppose it should come as no surprise that our available fall dates are being snapped up faster than the eager single ladies vying for the bouquet toss! You know what I’m talking about…we’ve all seen those epic tosses, where elbows are thrown, heels are broken and all bets of lady-like behavior are off. That’s about how fast our fall dates are going.

With such stunning views and pure, untamed fairy-tale scenery combined with perfect weather, it really shouldn’t be a surprise, but we are always honored when a couple chooses to spend their special day with us, at our home. You see, we aren’t some giant, faceless corporation. We are two people, with a passion for the Red River Gorge and each other, who want to share what we have with others. We take pride in our facility and our ability to help our couples create one of the most memorable days of their lives. It’s important to us and we truly care.

If you haven’t been to the Red River Gorge in a while, right now is the perfect time to visit. Come for a weekend getaway, wear some flannel and boots, enjoy a hike, breathe in the woodsy fall smells, snuggle up by a campfire with your sweetie, and by all means come see us. We would love to show you around.
